Client-defined parameters > Customised approach > Unique outputs

Customised Intelligence Assessments extend our standard and existing analyses in more depth or across a broader base. They invariably require a dedicated intelligence gathering process.

Providing targeted or non-standard analysis requires either a customised analytical or investigative approach, which we provide through our combination of methodologies, experience, and models.

Applying customised analyses can constitute the first step in monitioring or developing a comprehensive view of the operating environment for developing or refining strategies.

The analyses can be commissioned to identify and qualify new threats or opportunities leveraging our country or domain intelligence assessments on security markets, technology, economic, geo-political, defence and government policy domains.

As part of a process for evaluating strategic options, and developing strategy, customised analysis adds the contextual depth necessary for the consideration of new market entry, new product development, and expansion strategies based on comprehensive intelligence.

Client-defined parameters for analysis guide our customised approach in both qualitative and quantitative terms, and provide the most appropriate methodology for achieving client objectives.

Each defined framework provides a basis for comparative analyses and a range of benchmark outputs cover both performance, and expectations which are often applied in workshop process.

To identify company specific intelligence for the purpose of different applied analyses we develop a thorough understanding of:

  • Strategic positioning in different domains
  • Practices and initiatives in each domain
  • Cost & Supply-chain Structures
  • Portfolio Development Strategies
  • Distribution Channel Structure
  • Investment Cycles
  • Pricing Strategies

Our customised approach combines primary and secondary sources. The growing wealth of open and grey sources provides a broad base of information on technology and solution development, macro-factors affecting security & defense industries, trends in threat evolution, and company data.

Most of these sources require a degree of informed interpretation to achieve any integration into one coherent body of knowledge. With differences in definitions, methods of calculation, limitations to methodology, and subjective or oversimplified interpretation, much of this information requires rigorous vetting particularly when based on limited assumptions or insufficient knowledge. Some sources should even be rejected.

Our secondary research methods provide a transparent survey of existing information, giving an informed and objective overview. However it is increasingly important to appreciate the analytical value of applying primary and human sources of intelligence to the existing open intelligence sources.

The first objective of primary source gathering is to cross-examine many of the findings uncovered in the review of secondary intelligence sources. This includes contacting the original authors or industry commentators to probe further into more contentious issues, contradictions, or conclusions. This goes further in identifying the inconsistencies in other reporting, and reasons for the misinterpretation of raw intelligence by other analysts. It also mitigates the risk of relying on some unreliable web-based sources.

Direct contact with different companies allow us to cross-check industry trends and help to understand how companies and organisations are making decisions, and investments. By combining this information for many players it is possible to:

  • Establish industry benchmarks of profitability and performance
  • Evaluate the sensitivities of performance to company positioning
  • Identify the impact of certain market dynamics on companies
  • Test market share volatility under different conditions
  • Identify insulatory factors that generate performance stability
  • Establish the key drivers of power in supply chain relationships
  • Access and collate unique datasets
  • Generate more reliable projections of future change scenarios
  • Gather feedback on specific issues of interest.
